Tech Job Losses Anticipation in Ireland
According to the Irish Times, tech employers in Ireland anticipate more job losses in the first quarter of the next year. Despite a slump in confidence over the past two years, the job losses in the tech sector are likely to be in HR and support roles, with companies struggling to find candidates with specialised technical skills.
The skills shortage is common across various industries, but companies in health, life sciences, finance, and real estate remain positive about adding to their workforces. Ireland’s tech sector is experiencing a contraction after a period of significant over-hiring, driven by slower-than-expected growth and global demand reduction. Larger companies are more positive about hiring, and Dublin faces a more acute skills shortage.
Employers are turning to contracting and interim hiring strategies, emphasising the need for upskilling programs to overcome talent shortages in the new year.
